Homosex “Marriage” in California: Updated
I find this an interesting story. Here is California, a Blue State with a Blue Governator wearing Red fur, voting, again, to ban homosex “marriage”.
And now the deviants are unhappy and are out protesting.
More than a thousand gay-rights activists gathered Thursday afternoon outside the Mormon temple in Westwood to protest the role Mormons played in passing Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California.
It was the latest in an escalating campaign directed against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its role in marshaling millions of dollars in contributions from its members for the successful campaign to take away same-sex marriage rights.
Here. Thanks to Drudge.
I find this interesting. I read somewhere that Blacks and Hispanics provided a lot of support for Prop. 8.
And I wish I had saved the link to an essay which uses this instance of a state electorate to argue that the GOP needs to get out of the social conservatism business, at the federal level. Let the people, through state action motivated by such propositions, solve the issues of abortion and same-sex pseudo marriage. Meanwhile a Republican president and congress can go back to giving the people what is really implied by the consititution–limited government and its associated blessings.
Any thoughts, Lloyd? Well, of course you have thoughts — but ones which you might like to share?
An interesting perspective.
Now check this one.

My intial thoughts upon reading in several places of the exchange of nasty slurs between the homosexuals and the blacks that it is the first sign of the unravelling of the Democrat’s “coalition of interests”. It’s not really a party, except to the extent that many of its base is unaware of how indebted to single-issue groups it is; rather it is a bundling of opportunistic left-dwelling interest groups, held together by special privileges and treatment as well as funding and outright grants from Washington provided by the office-holders. Could be very interesting, as in, “may you live in interesting times”.
Here’s something interesting- Mormons contributed about 50% of the funding for the Prop 8 campaign, while making up about 2% of the state population. Pretty amazing organizing ability- maybe get them to run the next Presidential campaign, although my guess is that would be illegal. I think churches lose tax-exempt status if they encourage members to vote for a specific party or candidate, but I suppose they could dance around it. Republicans seem to always score huge in Utah.
